~ Cost - how much are you willing to spend on your new business? Start up costs for online businesses vary widely. Keep in mind that that you are buying a business, not a job. You will have various costs associated with your business: website, hosting, marketing, advertising, branding, and newsletters, just to name a few. Even if your company provides you with an affiliate website, you will want to have one of your own to set yourself apart. Will you have to pay a one time fee, or a monthly fee? Are you going to have to purchase marketing supplies from the company, and if so, how much will they be?
You are going to have to sit down, seriously look at your budget, and know ahead of time how much you're willing to spend on these things. There is no limit to who is willing to take your money for advertising and marketing products online. There are many ways to advertise for no or low-cost as well. Do some research, if you have chosen network marketing ask your upline what works and what doesn't. Stay ahead of the learning curve.
~Support - If you are considering a network marketing company or an affiliate marketing company you should take a serious look at your upline. Are they available for you when you have questions? Do they encourage you to call them on the phone or just contact them via email?
Consider the company's reputation as well. Look for discussion boards online and find reviews on the product or service, and the company itself. (Be cognizant however that some negative press may show regardless of how terrific the company is - be sure and interpret the real issues.) You don't want to get in the situation of partnering with a company and then finding your upline is nowhere to be found. You will need extensive support for at least the first few months to understand the compensation plan, all of the products and services and create a marketing plan for you and your team.
~ Product or Service - Before deciding to join an affiliate or network marketing company, you may want to try using the product or service first. If it is something that you are satisfied with and you believe it has market and growth potential then it may be a good fit for you. You can't market something that you haven't tried or you don't believe in. Customers will quickly see the insincerity of your business. For any business to work, you must have a product or service that has value to a specific target market. List the features and benefits of each product or service that the company offers.
It is very important to understand that building a business takes time and effort, whether online or offline. Being an entrepreneur is not easy, especially when you are juggling other things like family, work, kids and business. Being successful in business means your customers trust you and want to do business with you. Women tend to be exceptional relationship marketers, as women are nurturers by nature. Consider creating a newsletter that people can sign up to, and send periodic mailings to them letting them know about you, your business and your product or service. Include any special pricing you have, or new products that have just arrived.
Decide on your marketing budget and try to stay within it as much as possible. There are a multitude of ways to market online; everything from classifieds to Google ads. You will have to experiment with which marketing techniques work for you and which ones don't, unless you partner with a team who has a tried and true template and blueprint for you to follow.
