In 1953 Marilyn Monroe famously sang "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend" in the Hollywood film "Gentleman Prefer Blondes".

I dont think its unfair to say that the word diamonds could be translated into the much broader term of jewellery, especially designer jewellery!

Although personal taste can vary wildly, classy jewellery is adored by men and women the world over. Some may prefer bold and sparkly while others may prefer something a little more restrained yet no less beautiful.

Whatever your taste, whatever your style, designer jewellery is intended to make a statement! The statement you make is up to you and thats its beauty, Individuality!

Whenever you see movie premier events on TV or perhaps award shows, once the analysts have assessed the celebrity's (and indeed wannabe celebrities) clothes, they quickly move onto the jewellery they are wearing as it is often the jewellery and accessories that complete the outfit.

As you would expect, designer jewellery is made in many shapes and sizes and out of many materials, from extravagantly expensive to conservatively affordable, there is generally something for everyone.

I imagine shiny gold rings are one of the first things one may think of when considering designer jewellery but there is so much more! There are necklaces, earrings, bracelets and cuffs to name just a few.

Costume jewellery, fashion jewellery and contemporary jewellery are just some of the categories that the designer jewellery piece of your dreams may be filed under.

Creating designer jewellery has become an art form, inspired by far away exotic lands, by royalty and romance, by a lingering, lunar eclipse or the dance of silver shooting stars, by the grandeur of snow peaked mountain tops or the deepest, darkest depths of the ocean! Imagination is the only law!

What is your favourite? Gold jewellery, charm jewellery, gemstone jewellery or perhaps beaded jewellery? Are you delicate and dainty or bold and ballsy?

Designer jewellery can and probably should be fun, an escape from the hum drum of the daily grind, why not switch off for a while and dream of bygone days of glamour and fame, of elegance and beauty.

Why not pretend to be Marilyn for an evening? Let your hair down and smile, wear your fanciest dress and your very best jewellery and revel in your freedom of expression! Yes you can too chaps!

So designer jewellery is freedom, freedom of design, freedom of expression but most of all a freedom of imagination!
