Water found in odd places can only mean one thing: water damage. Water damage can be brought in by flooding from a hurricane, rainwater seeping through your roof, and by accidents when handling it. In some cases, the power to prevent water damage from occurring is beyond your control but in other cases, you have full control over this type of damage.
Preventing water damage from occurring can be as simple as checking on your plumbing on a regular basis and cleaning up liquid spills immediately. Checking on your plumbing once per month is sufficient but checking bi-weekly or even weekly is more ideal. Plumbing can get faulty overnight, and leaks that were not present the night before could very well be a full-fledged problem by the morning time. Checking on your pipes often will significantly lower your chances of leaks or tears that gradually occur with wear and tear.
Another way to prevent water damage is to be careful whenever you are handling water. It may sound simple, but anybody with either kids or companion animals can testify to how hard it is to keep spilled liquids or foods off of the floor, the furniture, or the wall. Whenever any liquid is spilled on the floor, it has to be tended to immediately to prevent further damage. Liquid on wood will cause the least amount of damage if the wood is treated and the liquid doesn't permeate the subfloor through the edge of the wall.
Cleaning liquid from carpeting is much more difficult. When drying up the wet area, do not rub the carpet. Instead, dab with a cloth and press down until the cloth is no longer wet. In some cases, you will have to leave the cloth on the wet area overnight so it will absorb as much of the moisture as possible. If you have a carpet cleaning machine, then you can use that instead to suck up the excess moisture.
Keeping your home water damage-free means you won't have to fork out any money for repairs, and it will also mean a clean and mold-free environment for you and your family.
