Millions of people in the United States and all over the world enjoy the offerings on television. TV is one of America's favorite pastimes, and it has only gotten more popular with the wide variety of shows that networks offer. Plus, the recent switch to all digital broadcasting gives viewers a better viewing experience and the chance to view channels in the high definition format.

What you want out of television programming will be the ultimate factor in determining which type of TV service you want. As of right now, there are three ways that you can watch TV. They are cable, satellite, and antenna. Each one has different offerings, and each one has its pros and cons. After weighing the pros and cons of each one, then you can decide which one is right for you.

Watching TV with an antenna is the oldest method, but don't be fooled by it being old fashioned. Despite being a technology that has existed for the past few decades, it is still very much a technology that is dependable and economical. Perhaps the best thing going for the TV antenna is that you don't have to pay a monthly fee for its service. You simply invest anywhere from $50 to $150 for an indoor or outdoor antenna, plug it in, and watch your favorite shows from the local line up. Not a single cent goes towards TV watching, unless you want to count electricity...

Relying on over-the-air signals from the transmission towers, antennas provide the clearest picture quality. The downside about antennas is that they offer local television programming. With the switch to digital, there are more channels now than there used to be, including one of MTV's channels. If you want more to choose from, however, then you need to sign up for one of the following services.

Using an intricate network of cables, cable television brings your TV's screen to life by transferring data from their center through the cables. Cable television offers all local programming plus many specialty ones. They also offer premium movie channels, such as HBO and Cinemax. For a monthly fee, you can choose from their array of channel packages, ranging from basic cable channels to bigger packages with more channels.

Satellite works much in the same way as cable does, but it relies on (you guessed it) satellites to bring your TV's screen to life. For a monthly fee, you, too, can choose from basic programming or more advanced packages with more specialty and premium channels.
