Allow yourself sufficient time for this routine and when you look in the mirror aged 60 plus you will thank yourself. This beginners guide brings your skin routine back to basics, which work when applied with patience over time.
1. Always clean your face thoroughly
Even if you have not been wearing cosmetics you still need to clean your face properly. It is amazing what we pick up from the environment and of course wearing cosmetics makes it more likely for your skin to be clogged up. But not many of us ladies like to be without them.
2. To be gentle with your skin use cotton balls and a gentle cleanser, but firstly use lukewarm water so that the pores are opened up softly. Then as if giving yourself a little face massage rotate the cotton balls with cleanser using small round upwards movements.
3. The idea behind slight upwards movements are to help keep the tautness of your skin as you become a little older it will appear younger. Before starting your cleansing ritual make sure your hands and surfaces are clean so that you are not transferring any extra dirt into your regime.
4. Next you can massage a mild face wash onto your face for around 60 seconds to wipe away any dirt, bacteria, pollutants, and residue of products. So this three times to be sure that you have removed residues that would otherwise clog your pores.
5. Next pat your skin dry, and you can use an alcohol-free toner that preferably contains glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acid. These types of acids can reduce the size of your pores and can give you instant results.
6. Moisturise afterwards
Moisturising after cleansing is an absolute necessity. It will help replenish the necessary oil that was lost. Use products which do not contain harsh additives. Once in a while you could use some pure Vitamin E or Aloe Vera oil can be applied too for intensive moisture treatment. Give your skin a chance to absorb the chosen moisturiser before doing anything else.
7. Always use moisturiser which is designed for the face, not the body. Remember that body lotions are often more greasy, whereas facial moisturizers are more mild and less greasy. If you apply the wrong type of moisturiser to the face you are more likely to end up with clogged up pores which do not encourage a youthful skin.
8. Never use facial moisturiser around the eye area unless the product states that it is safe to do so. This skin area normally requires special treatment such as a cooling cucumber therapy which you can start off with slices of cucumber and lie down for a while with them placed over your eyes. These are very soothing and will help reduce any puffiness.
9. Try to moisturise when possible twice a day. Night time is when your body is resting and able to do a lot of repair work making it the ideal time for a moisturising over night treatment. If you take the time and also see your regime as a small face massage you will feel happy with more youthful skin.
