Let's start with the plasma television. Plasma utilizes natural gases that are lit up with lights to bring you the picture. With great resolution rates, the plasma television makes it a great tool for watching high definition movies and playing video games. Because of the technology it uses, it is capable of achieving an excellent spectrum of color. It has great color saturation and can achieve rich, dark colors.
The pros against plasma have been greatly improve on since they were first made, but they can still exist even with the new models. Plasmas, at one time, were notorious for leaving burnt images on the screen after you turn off the set. If, for example, the television was on for a prolonged period of time, one might see very faint dark lines where the image on the screen used to be. This is even more likely to occur when the screen was stationary for some time, particularly on a news cast or in a video game or movie where the scene was extended. In addition, plasmas tend to get very hot and use up more energy.
LCD, or liquid crystal display, utilizes liquid crystal that is pressed between two glass panels and then lit up with a backlight. LCD televisions are also capable of high definition resolutions, which is perfect for watching movies, watching television in HD, and playing video games. LCDs tend to be slightly less expensive than plasma televisions. Furthermore, they use less energy to help keep your electricity bill down and are considered "low emission" devices, which is perfect for those who like to do what they can to help out the environment.
As good as the LCD sounds, however, it does, like the plasma television, have its cons. For one, it cannot achieve darker colors like the plasma can because of the technology it uses. Its viewing angles are also not as good, so if someone is sitting off to the side of the television, the image will appear washed out and unclear.
When all is said and done, the choice of which television type is the best is a matter of trying out each one and seeing which one suits the person's needs more.
