First of all, it is absolutely necessary that you know your man. If he is a handy kind of guy around the house and he enjoys working with his hand, then the obvious choice might be power tools, hand tools, or even a tool box. If he is an avid hunter or fisherman, then those are great gifts, but you have to take the time to know what he needs. If you are not well acquainted with what items he has already, it might take a little snooping on your part if you want the gift to be a complete surprise. Check out his tool box and see what items he already has so you do not get him something he does not need. The same goes for his tackle box. If all else fails, you can always seek some help from one of his buddies and see if there is anything he might have mentioned to them.
One thing that you might be in tune with are what type of electronics he would like to have. If he has been longing for a specific item, you know that would be something he would love. If he either already has a big flat screen television or you can not afford a gift of that size, he might like an ipod if he likes music, a cell phone if he does not already have one, or even a blackberry if he has a growing business of his own. There are also GPS systems for their vehicle that might come in handy if they must travel a lot.
Men have also become more aware of beauty products for themselves these days. They are learning about skin and hair care. Products like these can replace the old colognes he used to always get. Body scrubbers and bath brushes can also be an inexpensive gift, but at least one that he will use and appreciate. Things like this make great gifts for Father's Day. A man enjoys receiving a useful gift just like women do and they might like for it to be something besides an ugly tie that they will never want to wear.
