Beyonce and Lady GaGa are ready for the ceremonies, as Beyonce said to People Magazine, "I'm excited and honored to be tied for most nominated for the VMAs. I've been blessed this year to have 'Single Ladies' become a video people really connected with and responded to. I've spent so much time watching all the great versions people created all around the world. It's beautiful to feel you touch people and bring a song to life with a video." In another battle of the sexes / style showdown, Kanye West and Eminem are equally matched, earning four nominations each, and in each of the same four categories. Eminem's "We Made You" goes against Kanye West's "Love Lockdown" for Video of the Year, Best Male Video and Best Hip Hop Video, while the same video for Eminem goes again Kanye's "Paranoid" for Best Special Effects.

Not far behind the two leading ladies of the evening is Britney Spears in her comeback album Circus; receiving seven nominations for "Womanizer" including Video of the Year, the pop icon is sure to pick up a few moonmen this September, which she finally began her reign last year when "Piece of Me" picked up a few moonmen after losing all 16 nominations in previous years. Other artists up for the statue include newcomers Asher Roth and 3Oh!3 for their hit singles, Katy Perry's "Hot n Cold," Kelly Clarkson's new single "My Life Would Suck Without You," Jay-Z's "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)," Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent" and T.I. featuring Rihanna's "Live your Life."
This year's show will hope to surpass the numbers from last year, as Brand earned 23 million view during the Sunday night show, a 15% boost from the 2007 version and a 41% boost from 2006's headlined by Jack Black. Brand announced the nominees for Best Video of the Year, asking fans to follow on Twitter for more announcements before the show in September.
