Step 1: The domain name should be accurate, good and keyword rich. Suffice it to say the domain name is important for both general marketing and keyword optimization for Google spiders although this would be gone into in greater depth in a course on Internet marketing. Your business is only going to be hurt by nonsense keywords, difficult to remember keywords that customers forget and keywords that are strangely spelled.
Step 2: Tags should be utilized. Use meta tags, image name tags and put the keywords for your site within the heading tags. Since spiders check them all don't focus on meta tags to the exclusion of all others.
Step 3: Local keywords targeting: This should do for now but a complete course in Internet marketing would teach you about keyword research. Aim for specific keywords that achieve a medium amount of searches. There is too much competition and low converting traffic with too many searches. You don't have enough prospects with too few. It is important to businesses aiming locally to aim in the middle with specific keyword phrases to indicate your specific location.
Step 4: Utilize quality back links: Local sites that are in the process of trying to get links listed in the announcement or news section is where press releases should be sent. You will aid in increasing the page rankings, eventually driving more traffic to the site by using quality back links from sites related by the sector of location as a result of the links themselves.
These four steps should be enough to get you started even though they don't make up the entire Internet marketing course. A good step in the right direction to raising the rank of your page in the listings of search engines is following these steps.
