No net-savvy user can underestimate the danger posed by Spyware. These malicious programs cause losses worth millions of dollars to corporates and individuals alike and huge amounts of money are spent in fighting these fast breeding threats. Spyware programs can lurk in your data, stealing crucial information like credit card numbers and personal browsing history. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. So here's a list of the most dangerous spyware doing the rounds, brought to you through FaceTime Security Labs.

1. Gator: Normally these are installed by users like you as a password vault. This helps in recalling passwords automatically when you visit some sites. However, frequent pop-ups as and when you visit certain sites would have to be put up with. This would be highly annoying to a frequent user. The maker of Gator, has provided some relief by labelling the pop-up ads, but Gator continue to be annoying for the users.

2. CoolWebSearch is a spyware that redirects you to CoolWebSearch.com or Datanotary.com by tricking your browser. It is difficult to remove it from the system and has to be uninstalled carefully, never manually, unless more damage is done. It has evolved into more troublesome versions.

3. 180SearchAssistant: When you get some "freebie" types of software like emoticons or wallpapers, this software also is given bundled along. As you install this software, it would annoy with pop-up ads or unwanted website windows related to the keyword searches that you have made earlier. The recent versions of this software, of course, comes with an option for add/remove program uninstall feature.

4. Huntbar: Another piece of annoying software, Hunthar, manages to install a toolbar in both your internet explorer and windows explorer windows. It will also change your home page and settings for search to redirect you to their own search engine. This can be highly annoying and also consume an exorbitant memory space of over 15%.

5. Cydoor is the next in line among its illustrious brothers and sisters. The main source of this program is the peer to peer (P2P) software. Much like the others mentioned above, it frustrates the users no end by incessant advertisement pop ups and also tracks the browser history.

6. ISTbar: This software is yet another annoying item. It gets installed through ActiveX and Javascript actions. That means whenever you visit a site with these features, ISTbar will install itself into your disk. Then it will install a toolbar which serves the function of tracking and forwarding vital information to my-internet.info and blazefind.com.

7. WhenU-DesktopBar: This software keeps displaying advertising contents. It will also monitor your internet traffic and spy on your search profiles. It can also execute remote codes from an outside server through its update feature that can cause harm to your computer.

8. New.Net: Non-Standard top level domains are sold by the company called New.Net. As this is a highly annoying software, it should be removed instantaneously.

IEplugin uses the same tactics as Huntbar in that it sets up its own toolbar on your browser. It monitors all your activity on the Net and uses that information maliciously.

And finally we have BargainBuddy. This notorious spyware, distributed by BullzEye Network, would plant Helper Object on the browser to spy on the user's history and data. It would familiarize itself with your popular keywords and then blast you with advertisments linked to those key searches. So the main strategy used by these spywares is to infiltrate your system, spy on your net history, grab personal data and use it to flood you with dead end advertisements and unwanted frills which cause more trouble. Now you know the enemy, just knock them out or better still, keep them out.
