Over the past couple of years, we've seen a number of children's products being recalled for a series of defects. California product liability lawyers who are deeply concerned about product safety, have been following dozens of these product recalls. However, parents are not always aware of the recalls that are announced.

For such parents, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has a list of the 10 most dangerous children's products that have been recalled over the past few years:

Playskool Travel-Lite Play Yards

The side rails of the portable crib can fold during use, causing a child to become trapped in the crib and suffocate. Three deaths have been linked to this product.

Evenflo Happy Camper Play Yards

The play yards can suddenly collapse, trapping the child inside. The rotating plastic hinges are prone to cracking, creating a sharp edge or even allowing the child to escape from the yard. There have been at least three deaths linked to these.

Baby Trend Home and Roam and Baby Express Portable Cribs and Play Yards

These cribs can collapse, and trap an infant. At least 4 deaths have been reported in such collapses, involving these portable cribs and play yards. There have been four deaths, and three reports of injuries linked to these play yards.

Magnetix Building Set

Tiny magnets inside the building sets can fall out. Young children who found the pieces were easily able to place these in their mouths raising the risk of a choking hazard. If the child swallowed more than one magnet, these are likely to stick to each other through the intestinal walls, causing perforation of the intestine. At least one death has been reported because of such choking, and the CPSC also has reports of at least 27 children who were injured from swallowing the tiny magnets. The toymaker Mega Brands was recently fined a civil penalty by the CPSC for its failure to inform the public about the choking hazards.

Polly Pocket Dolls with Magnets

These dolls contain small magnets that can come loose. Young children who find the magnets are likely to swallowing these, leading to an aspiration hazard. In case the child swallows more than one magnet, the magnet can stick to intestines causing perforation injuries. The CPSC is aware of at least three cases in which children were seriously injured from intestinal perforation.

Simplicity Drop Side Cribs

The drop side crib can detach, creating a space between the crib mattress and the drop side, and posing an entrapment hazard. At least 10 deaths have been reported with the use of the cribs.

Simplicity Bassinets

This bassinet has been also linked to an entrapment hazard and at least three deaths.

Hills Sportswear Hooded Drawstring Sweatshirts

One boy in California was tangled when the drawstring on his hooded sweatshirt became stuck on playground equipment

Evenflo Envision High Chairs

Recline fasteners and metal screws on the high chair can come off, causing the seatback to detach or decline suddenly. Several children have been injured from such unexpected detaching.
