But in my opinion--which is a very respectable one if I do say so--once a person has tried hard to take good care of their body, has implemented healthy habits, and is still dissatisfied with the way they look, they should have every right to seek the help of professionals which can help restore them to a body image which boosts their self-esteem each time they look in the mirror.
Before you seek surgical corrective methods, you will want to try to live up to that first "requirement," I mentioned: take good care of your body.
If you feel you are overweight and/or have problem areas on your body, make a dedicated effort to exercise. Change your eating habits as much as necessary to drop unwanted weight. If you don't learn to alter your lifestyle, then any kind of surgery will be a very expensive but very TEMPORARY fix.
You see, when you gain weight that is made up of fat (as opposed to building muscle mass), your body produces new "fat cells," which fill up. When you lose the weight, the fat cells don't disappear or die off; they are essentially just starved.
Liposuction actually removes these troublesome fat cells, but if you don't make a total lifestyle transformation beforehand, your body will just go on to produce more fat cells to accommodate the bag of greasy potato chips you ate in one sitting.
The purpose of liposuction is NOT to make you lose weight. In fact, generally speaking, only ten pounds of fat (usually less) can be removed from a certain area at one time. It is instead meant to reshape your body to create more pleasant contours in vital areas like your thighs, stomach, hips, and back.
It is not intended to get rid of cellulite, though it can in some cases reduce the general appearance of cellulite because it removes fatty deposits which build up and cause the cottage cheese-like look on the thighs and buttocks.
You should also be aware that liposuction does not include a skin-tightening component to the surgery. If your skin is very elastic, as is the case with many younger patients, you will probably have more slightly results. However, if you are older, you may want to consider additional cosmetic surgery to help the skin tighten.
I don't recommend that women considering having children in the future get liposuction, as we obviously put on weight and therefore gain fat cells during pregnancy. But once your family is complete, this may be a prime way to "get your body back," and feel sexy again!
