In our increasingly wired world digital video is beginning to make it's mark on our society. Being of the generation that has watch the personal computer grow from the Commodore 64 of the eighties to the powerhouse machines of today, it is interesting to watch how the internet, and particularly online media is changing the way we entertain ourselves.

Internet video is changing the world of video production. It used to be that, if you wanted to produce a film, you needed expensive camera equipment, script writers, a set, actor/resses, and a huge budget if you wanted to produce a film of any quality.

With the rate at which technology improves, it isn't surprising that the entertainment world as we know it is changing. Traditional media delivery systems are finding there markets quickly eroding as many of us are turning to the internet for our entertainment needs.

With broadband internet access being somewhat ubiquitous these days, the way we use the internet is changing. Since it's inception people have used the internet to seek out information. Today with technologies like blogging and video sharing beginning to mature, more and more people are more receptive to turning to the internet for entertainment, and not just information.

Since it's inception the internet has given people a new way to communicate. New ways to share your thoughts, your interests, or whatever you want really, have been created on the web.

If you mention the website YouTube, most people know immediately what you are talking about. Thus far, there really hasn't been much competition for the Google owned video giant. In the shadows of the giant, however, remains the second place video site.

Founded in 2005, YouTube quickly became one of the hottest sites on the internet. Today the site serves up over one hundred million videos a day. According to the research site HitWise, YouTube can claim over 46 percent of the entire online video market.

In days past, finding out what was going on in the world meant picking up the morning edition of the Globe and Mail, or watching the six o'clock news. For the news savvy today, however, it is no longer necessary to sit through an hour of news to get to the two stories you really wanted to watch.
