Malta adopted the Euro as her official currency in January, and reports suggest it could see holidays rise in price as the Maltese convert their currency to the Euro.

Malta is in fact made up of three islands, Malta (the main island) and two subsidiaries-Gozo and Comino. Although all three are inhabited, Malta and Gozo take the lion’s share of tourist trade.

Malta has enjoyed a revival in the number of British people visiting the Mediterranean holiday island since low cost flights were introduced last year. Hotel and holiday bookings have been up for the first time in a number of years, and Malta's traditional market has rediscovered the island as a holiday destination.

New official statistics show that over 65,000 foreigners visited Malta in 2006, with the figure set to increase for this year. The rise in overseas students learning English is the fourth rise in as many years, and increasingly plays a contributory role to the island's economy.

The northern stretch of Malta is a much lesser-known area than other parts of the island, with the exception of the St. Paul's Bay area, one of three large resorts on the island. St. Paul's Bay is the ideal vacation spot if you like to incorporate a bit of this and a bit of that into your holiday.

Malta's slow pace of life might have contributed to the late introduction of low cost flights compared to her competitors, or it could have been politicians and the tourist authorities more interested in protecting the island's national airline with attitudes that the rest of Europe began to shrug off in the 80's, but whatever the reason, now that Malta has allowed the low cost airlines, they can't get enough of them.

Malta has experienced an uncommon boon this year in their tourist trade. It appears that their popularity is on the rise as a popular, affordable destination for more travelers on holiday. And much of this success can be attributed to the increase in affordable flights to and from the exotic destination.

The 2008 Valletta Boat Show promises to top the 2007 event. A larger space and more exhibitors will draw a sizable crowd to the beautiful Maltese town of Marsa.
