Majorca is renowned for beach holidays, and is a favourite among Europeans for a summer holiday. But more tourists are beginning to appreciate the heart and sould of Majorca, in the island's rural communities.

Even if "self-catering" is an unfamiliar term to you, you may at least be familiar with the concept. The idea became mainstream in the 2006 movie "The Holiday," however; self-catered travelling has actually been around in one form or another for decades.

Even when longer haul destinations in Europe like Cyprus, Malta and Greece became possible, and later holidays in Florida and even more recently Australia became economically viable for more people, Spain has maintained her popularity.

Nairobi, whose name means "cool river", is the largest and fastest growin city in east Africa. Founded as a railway workers encampment, the city is now home to over 3 million people.

With the credit crunch badly affecting the world, and due to job cuts, foreclosures, bankruptcy, and the declining value of the British pound, a number of people are cutting back on their holiday plans.

There's a mood of optimism on Tenerife that with all the island can offer, the tourists will still come and the holidays industry will survive the European recession.

When I was 16, it was June and we had just moved to Florida. I was so excited I could picture that golden tan I was going to get. I remember distinctly my father's words as we headed off to the beach with our towels and radio in search of the perfect tan.

Fort Myers is not only a city steeped in history it is also a great example of 'Old Florida'. By 'Old Florida', I mean the neighborhoods have many of the typical Florida style one level homes with the hurricane shutters on them and the streets are lined with trees covered in Spanish Moss hanging almost to the blacktop in some places.
